What should you do when a dental emergency arises?
While some dental concerns may not require an emergency visit, these dental situations should be assessed by a professional right away: Your tooth is loose, broken, dislodged or knocked out. As there is a short window of time in which to successfully treat the tooth, you should try to be seen by a dentist right away.
- You’re experiencing intense pain that isn’t minimized by medication or ice packs. Call our office immediately and we’ll see you as soon as possible.
- When bleeding caused by an injury or infection doesn’t subside,you should press down on the area that’s bleeding with a clean cloth and go to the hospital right away.
- You’ve lost a filling. While you can use a piece of softened sugarless gum to protect the area until you’re able to see us, you should try to have the filling replaced as soon as possible.
Generally speaking, any dental issue that requires treatment to alleviate pain, stop bleeding, or save a tooth is a dental emergency. Oral infections and abscesses in the mouth can also be life-threatening when left untreated.
